Boba!

Today after school, I had to satisfy my monthly necessity. Bubble tea, boba, or whatever you want to call it, is one of my favorite drinks. Commonly made up of milk with some tea or fruit flavoring, boba is a personal staple. Although many think that Boba is Chinese, it originated in Taichung, Taiwan. The true start of boba tea is unknown but the story is that milk tea, shaved ice, and boba were all already desserts but it wasn't until the 1980s that Liu Han Chieh, a tea store owner, combined them all. Nowadays, boba can be found everywhere often sold with a large extent of flavors and topping choices. Out of all the choices, my go to is Matcha with lychee jelly. And often times, you're allowed to choose your own sugar levels and ice so I like to always get 25% ice to maximize my tea while keeping it cold. Now in Taiwan, boba is impossible to avoid as it fills up tons of food stalls and night markets. And in the US, following Taiwan immigration in the 90s and spread of Starbucks, boba became increasingly popular due to a growing cafe culture. There are so many boba chains out there but if you're ever by Redondo Beach, check out Mellow Tea! 7.5/10 Bussins
